Ideology lesson

Ideology - A set of ideas, values and beliefs of a particular group.

Developed by Karl Marx.

Ideological processes can be found throughout society in religion, the family, education and the mass media. A popular narrative of Hollywood film is the American Dream: the belief that if you are prepared to work hard there is no bar to the success in the United States. Represented as a democratic ideal, this narrative can also be read as an ideological constructio; the rich and successful deserve their position while people remain poor because they do not work hard or they lack ambition.
